Cover letter

Andreas Wieslander · for UI Designer, BJAK (remote, Sweden)

I am an experienced digital creator with a background in UX, visual design, and product development. I have spent years making complex things feel simple on a small screen, which is exactly what this role is about, and it is the part of the work I enjoy most.

I have designed and shipped consumer apps for iOS and Android. Ninja Fingers is a fast four-player game on a single screen where the interface has to be instantly readable under pressure, and I own its design end to end, including a full revival this year against current platform requirements and user expectations. Hair Fashion was built together with Sweden’s largest hair magazine and turned a print product into a live, synced gallery app during the early growth of the App Store, and I ran the scoping and the user flows. Both taught me the same lesson: on mobile, hierarchy, spacing, and typography are not decoration, they are the difference between a screen someone understands and one they abandon.

Financial products are familiar territory. I built a TradingView indicator in Pine Script that visualises moving averages across six timeframes, from one minute to monthly, in a single view. The hard part was never the maths, it was designing a display a trader can read at a glance without clutter. I have also worked hands-on with e-commerce, payments, and digital ownership, including a seven-part series on minting my own tokens.

I think in whole journeys, not single screens. When I revived Ninja Fingers I did not just redraw screens, I drove the entire chain, from App Store compliance to localisation into fifty languages to actual publishing. I work close to engineers on the details too, because I have updated game codebases in Xcode myself and I write my own WordPress plugins, so a pixel-perfect handoff is a conversation I can hold.

In my career of twenty years I have rarely met someone who really goes the extra mile and helps out others like Andreas. He has the combination of both skills and friendliness along with a problem solving attitude. Anyone who hires Andreas will definitely be impressed by both his kindness and abilities and how he gets things done!

Design systems and information architecture are part of how I work. At the University of Gothenburg I built and maintained a base template that the university’s many blogs were built on, keeping it consistent as WordPress and PHP changed underneath it. Across around ten e-commerce projects I have designed for many clients’ different themes, plugins, languages, and payment setups at once, which forces a systematic, reusable approach. On my own site, every project card and every letter is built from the same shared set of components.

You can see the work at chromatic.se. I write and build the whole site myself, in Swedish and English, and I animate most project thumbnails because I want it to be beautiful for the visitor, not only functional. I care about the craft at that level. My degree is in interactive media with a focus on user experience, interaction design, and user testing, and that has been the backbone of everything since.

On tools: my day-to-day design tools are Illustrator and Photoshop, and I have built custom typography, rigged and animated characters, and produced motion graphics. I am strongest at the parts that matter most early, wireframes and prototypes, and I work in Figma and would happily move to it fully for a team that already lives there. I pick up new tools quickly and by choice.

I move quickly while keeping the visual bar high, I take ownership of a problem rather than waiting for detailed instructions, and I can always explain the reasoning behind a design choice. Ninja Fingers is proof of that: a decade-old game brought back to a modern standard, decision by decision.

One thing I would want to dig into early is where in the insurance and claims flows users lose trust, because that is usually where a few careful screens change the whole experience.

Please have a look at my recommendations from former colleagues and managers, mostly from the University of Gothenburg. I think they capture how I work with a team: linkedin.com/in/andreas-wieslander.

I hope we get the chance to meet and talk more about how I can contribute!
